Hi folks,

This email will serve as minutes and notes from the officers meeting last

week at Ming Garden.

We were discussing topics for another seminar when Doug Boone suggested

Library Management and related issues. The other officers were

enthusiastic.

Doug broke this into 4 parts.

1. Symbols

2. Footprint Simulation

3. Manufacturability

4. Solid Modeling

We then suggested topics and possible speakers.

Library Management by Doug Boone

HTML Web based applications by ChipData

Valor Part Library, Physical shapes by Valor

Parametric part info by Partminer? or other

Symbol Creation by Zuken

Gen Cam, moving symbols Cad to Cad by Gary Ferrari

Innoveda?

What is key in sorting & naming Comp.s and properties and attributes by

Andy Kowalewski

Padstack generation by ?

IDF in and out for Symbols by ?

Topics by Mentor and Cadence

This could be a two day workshop with hands on after lectures.

Price would be low, just to offset cost not be a money maker.

We will talk again with Glenn and the college for cooperation and space.

We will also try to work with CCCCD and DCCCD on projects and at least try

to have our council represented on their advisory boards.  (We do)

Next meeting in 4 weeks or so.

Did I miss anything??

Have a great day folks.

Respectfully submitted,

Damon Oran

adding to damons outline :

I just sent a customer a note which might be useful fodder for discussion:

she asked, "Is there a place I can learn about library management?"

Yes, we are preparing a two day seminar on Library Management to be offered by the IPC Local Designer's Council (about

topics of interest from one of the ideas below followed by specific product application breakout sessions for each vendor

present to show how his software can address the issues of the day.

1. Symbols where are the standards? Gary Ferrari

2. Footprints standards and variations for mfg. Gary Ferrari

3. Database Issues tie symbols to footprints and add data for BOM RSI-Inc

4. Simulation, Spice, VHDL, IBIS or not? Mentor or Innoveda

5. Manufacturability, impact of solder techniques on padstack shapes and sizes,

margins and data items for insertion, inspection, test, Valor

6. Solid Modeling of each footprint model- why not? Solid Works, RSI

day two advanced issues:

7. HTML Web based applications                                             by ChipData

8. Valor Part Library, Physical shapes                                         by Valor
