Meeting held at Taffy's Restaurant on Thursday, 3rd Feb at 11.30am.
In attendance: Andy kowalewski, Keith Larson, Glenn Wells, Paul Olson.
Apology received from Doug Boone
and Damon Oran. Damon and his wife had the most terrible misfortune - Valor forced them both to accept a four day all expenses paid holiday in the Bahamas. He was so upset at being treated so badly after
working so hard and so successfully that Damon told me he almost resigned over the issue :-)
Paul Olson has joined our Conference Committee, and I'm delighted to announce that he has accepted our
invitation to sit on the Executive Committee as Publicity Officer. He is a very welcome addition to our group, and from events since our meeting, has hit the ground running with a string of good ideas. He'll
meet us all sooner or later, but in the meantime needs all the help we can give him in getting familiar with our end of the electronics industry, and with the movers and shakers who can help us and him get
the job done. On behalf of the Executive and the members, I'd like to extend him a warm welcome.
Our next meeting will have a video, a presentation on Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, and a
presentation on CAD Library issues. I'll also open a discussion on our "PCB Project".
I'm going to get a blurb back to Paul and Keith about my presentations, and
something on the other presentation once we know who will do it.
We are looking for someone to sponsor the catering for our next Chapter meeting. Keith is going to talk to Bernard at Taffys Restaurant to
see if they can do it for us for the rest of the year, to save a lot of messing about at each meeting. In the meantime, I was told that Dwight complained the most about not having any food at our last
meeting (my fault - I couldn't make it to the last minute) so I'm going to approach him about sponsoring the coming meeting, and organising delivery as well. I don't think Taffys can do the soft drinks, so
we'll need a little extra effort for that also.
Glenn will arrange with Christine Myrick at IPC for the new video, after returning the old one.
We're looking for a presenter for the GD&T.
Glenn will approach Larry Holmes at TI who sits on an ANSI committee for just that topic. If he's not available, I'll see who else can do it, as Glenn has a good book on the subject that will help
enormously. If all else fails, I'll be able to do it myself with enough time to prepare.
I'll do a presentation on CAD Libraries, to cover some of the major issues a
company faces in making sure its CAD part numbers are valid.
I'll also open a Chapter discussion on our PCB Project. Keith is approaching a local engineer (Scott Elliott) about a suitable project to run
with, based on something that will have at least a few high tech fine pitch devices on it, and that will actually do something useful when it's done. We should be able to get sponsors for the costs
involved, and it seems to me to be a good idea for establishing an interest for Chapter members at all levels of expertise, and to maintain a continuity we so badly need.
We discussed again a software
package from i-cast called "eTeam". Glenn has said it's the answer for remote engineering teamwork. I've just had a look at it and he's right - it's mindblowing. I'm going to chase it up for our PCB
Project as a means of keeping everyone in touch with our progress. If you want to see our engineering future (again) look at
www.i-cast.net
Download it free and get a thirty day writer license -
it's worth the effort. The reader comes free to everyone, like Adobe Acrobat.
Keith is going to link various other websites to our own, including various impedance calculators.
We're still
wondering about door prizes. Glenn is going to ask Veribest to sponsor our next door prize.
I have the CID inscribed shirts and will hand them out to whoever is missing theirs at the meeting. Krista
will also give me a list of people who should have received them.
I am still wanting to get the member survey out - it's about a quarter done. I'm hoping to have it done for the meeting.
We will
also be starting a membership drive fairly soon, once we get the organisation of the conference settled in, the year's schedule in place and the PCB Project better defined. Glenn has suggested we get stuff
into the TI magazine, and Paul has a few ideas also.
We're looking again at having Eric Bogatin come to the Chapter for a Signal Integrity presentation. Keith is already following that up.
